Compensation

After years of official denials and legal loopholes, The Camp Lejeune Justice Act provides healthcare and compensation

LEARN MORE
For over 30 years, the water at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune was contaminated with toxic chemicals known to cause cancer and other chronic conditions. Hundreds of thousands of servicemembers and civilians drank, bathed in, cooked with, and swam in that water. The government knew about the contamination by the early 1980s but failed to warn the victims that they were at increased risk for serious health problems.

On August 10, 2022, the Camp Lejeune Justice Act became law. On September 6, 2023, the Navy and DOJ announced the “Elective Option” which provides claimants an avenue to settle their claims.
The Elective Option Gives Qualifying Claimants up to $550,000. They must have at least 30 days exposure to Camp Lejeune and one of the following medical conditions may be eligible for an expedited resolution:
  • Bladder cancer
  • Kidney cancer
  • Kidney disease
  • Leukemia
  • Liver cancer
  • Multiple myeloma
  • Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Systemic sclerosis/scleroderma

    VOLATILE ORGANIC COMPOUNDS

Toxic Chemicals in Camp Lejeune Drinking Water

1982 - U.S Marine Corps find VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) in the water treatment plants providing most residents of Camp Lejeune with their drinking water. This includes Tarawa Terrace and Hadnot Point.

The toxic chemicals found in the drinking water include include Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC), and / or its chemical precursor, Vinyl Chloride Monomer, (VCM), benzene, Trichloroethylene (TCE) and Tetrachloroethylene (PCE). These extremely toxic VOCs are used to make paints and paint thinners, dry cleaning agents, petroleum fuels, and some pharmaceuticals.

The levels of toxic chemicals found in Camp Lejeune water were between 240 and 3400 times levels allowed by government safety standards!

1988 - 1981 - Documentation reveals that up to 1.1 million gallons of gasoline was floating on top of the Camp Lejeune groundwater table.

    Over $250 million recovered

    • $12.3 million recovered on $10 million verdict. In 2011, Mr. Jensen tried a case against Johnson & Johnson and McNeil in PA and obtained a $10 million verdict. Mr. Jensen's 18 year old female client suffered from Stevens Johnson syndrome/toxic epidermal necrolysis and is blind in one eye as a result of her ingestion of Motrin. This is the first Motrin SJS/TEN Plaintiffs' verdict anywhere. Mr. Jensen and his client prevailed on appeal. Mr. Jensen and his client have recovered more than 120% of the verdict as the payoff included post-judgment interest. The amount recovered was $12,367,123.29, a client recovery of $4,648,141.87, after fees of $5,565,205.44 and expenses from a nine week trial and years of representation of $2,148,775.89.
